Scoutmaster News --  May 8,  2008

Hello again scouts and scouters -

We are having the 3rd session for the swimming merit badge this Saturday at my home from 1 to 3 PM.  There will probably only be one more organized group session before Catalina, so do your best to make this Saturday session.

All scouts who want to earn the merit badge need to review the requirements and be prepared to demonstrate they can fulfill them.  I have 2 copies of the merit badge book scouts can use, but it would help if others can also bring books.

Several scouts are almost completed, but still need to do requirement 10 - which includes a written swimming exercise program.  Others still have several requirements to fulfill.  Remember, Requirement 4 includes jumping into the water with clothes on and using your clothes for flotation support.  To do this requirement you must have:

Long pants  - jeans or the old fashioned scout pants work well, zipoff pants can leak
Belt
Shoes
Socks
Long sleeve shirt - a button up dress shirt works best

Again - please read over the requirements and the merit badge book before you come.  We will be verifying that you fulfill the requirements.  There will be some instruction and help with your strokes, but we can not teach you how to swim from scratch.

Please bring:
swimsuit
clothes you can get wet (see above) if you are ready to do requirement 4
towel
sunscreen
swimming merit badge book (if you have it)

I will see the swimming merit badge candidates (and any Sea Base participants who have not performed the swimming test yet) on Saturday.  Please contact me with any questions. That's it for now.  Please feel free to email me at with any questions.
