Mount Diablo Rim of the Bay Outing

Permission Slip

When:  November 21-23, 2008
Where: Meet behind the Zoo Friday at 4:00 PM,
We should be back to the Zoo on Sunday afternoon around 3:00.

Uniform:  No
Food:
We will be leaving from behind the zoo on Friday, November 21st and car camping on Friday and Saturday nights.  Plan your menus for Friday night sack dinner, Saturday breakfast, lunch and dinner and  Sunday breakfast.

Fee:  $10 camping fee per scout, $15.00 gas money for the patrol driver, $8.00 for lunch on Sunday.

We will be camping in a group campsite limited to 30 campers, so this outing is sure to “SELL OUT”.

FIRST COME, FIRST SERVED: Permission Slips (attached) & camp fees will be accepted from ASM’s only on a first come, first served basis. Secure your spot by letting your ASM know you’ll be attending and get your Permission Slips to them ASAP.

The DEADLINE to turn in Permission Slips and fees is the next Troop Meeting on November 17th.  But to confirm your spot, get your Permission Slips and fees into your ASM early so they can in turn forward to the Outings Coordinator. You spot is not secured unless and until the Outings Coordinator has your Permission Slip and camp fee.

THE FINE PRINT: Permission Slips will not be accepted unless camp fees are included. Camp Fees are $10 per person, including adults. All parents are welcome, but Scouts take precedent over adults, so if the turnout is heavy we’ll limit the number of parents to as few as possible while maintaining a safe ratio of adults to Scouts. Scoutmaster Colby will make that call.

MOUNT DIABLO is an isolated 3,849 feet upthrust peak that is visible from much of northern California . >From the summit, it is possible to view the Sierra Nevada Mountains and Half Dome in Yosemite, about 125 miles to the east; Mt. Lassen, more than 180 miles to the north, and the Farallon Islands, 30 miles west beyond the Golden Gate Bridge. This mountain’s viewshed is one of the largest in the Western United States .

The park is about 85 miles and an approximate 2 hour drive from Sacramento .

We’ll be working again on orienteering skills (including orienting a map, shooting bearings and triangulation) as well as basic camping and hiking skills.  If you didn’t make the China Camp outing, this would be a good one not to miss!
