Troop 136 Tent Policy

Troop 136 provides tents for all of their scouts. The scouts of Troop 136 are required to adhere to the following rules and procedures while assigned a troop tent. Tents are of an expense to the troop, costing over $200.00 each. Parents will be asked to repair or replace any tent damaged through abuse or neglect cause by their scout. Scouts knowingly or repeatedly violating the following rules and procedures will be no long be invited to use troop tent regardless of the weather or other extraneous circumstances.

These are the rules and procedures of proper tent use. Scouts must:

• Have no more than 2 scouts per tent.
• Use a groundcloth beneath the tent
• Report any problems or damage of any tent you recieve at once. The scout will be responsible for any troop tent he is assigned to.
• No food or other smellables are allowed in the troop tents at any time, this includes toothpaste, flavored sun screen, or anyting that has a scent.
• No shoes worn in tents at any time
• No active fires, stoves, fuel cannisters, or candles are allowed in the troop tents
• No frame backpacks in tents, soft internal frame backpacks are allowed
• Avoid allowing sand to accumulate because grinding it in destroys the waterproofing.
• Keeping the tent door zipped closed will help keep out dirt bugs, & critters.
• The one who signs out the tent is responsible for taking it home after the outing, setting it up at home, letting it air out completely. That scout is also responsible for returning the tent to the next troop meeting. Airing the tent out will dissipate the moisture that accumulates as sleepers breathed out (even on warm dry campouts). Airing out the tent prevents stinky mildew.
• Scouts should also air out their personal sleeping bags after each outing.
